Orthopedic surgery FAQs
Common questions about procedures and recovery.
What happens during a luxating patella repair?
We offer several options: suture imbrication holds the patella in the groove with sutures, the wedge procedure deepens the groove, and a Ridge Stop implant — a small implant screwed to the bone — deepens the groove and holds the patella in place.
What's involved in CCL (ACL) repair?
We perform two different procedures: extracapsular imbrication, which uses a heavy nylon suture to stabilize the joint and works best on smaller dogs, and the Modified Maquet Procedure (MMP), a modified TTA procedure using a titanium foam wedge implant, staple, and IM pin.
What type of implants do you use for fracture repair?
Our surgeons use whatever implant is right for the job — IM pin, plate and screws, wire, or an external fixator.
Can you do OFA x-rays for hip and elbow certification?
Yes — we offer OFA x-rays for hip and elbow certification.
How will my pet recover after orthopedic surgery?
After surgery, most pets need 2 weeks of rest — no running, jumping, or playing. A stuffed Kong toy can help pass the time comfortably.

Recovery At Home
Two weeks of rest, made easier
After surgery, most pets need 2 weeks of rest — no running, jumping, or playing. A stuffed Kong toy can help: try peanut butter, softened kibble, baby food without onion or garlic, plain yogurt, or cheese whiz. Freezing the stuffed Kong makes it last longer.
